GHRP-2 research: what the studies have looked at

This page summarises the published research on GHRP-2, for reference. It states what each study investigated and in whom, not an effect to expect, and it is not medical advice. GHRP-2 (pralmorelin) is approved in Japan as a diagnostic agent only; it is not an approved medicine here, and what we supply is a research chemical for laboratory use only.

What GHRP-2 is

GHRP-2, also called pralmorelin, is a synthetic growth-hormone secretagogue that acts on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) to prompt the pituitary to release growth hormone. It is approved in Japan only as a diagnostic agent for assessing growth-hormone secretion; it has not been approved as a treatment.

What the studies investigated

Laferrère et al. (2005), Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism 90(2):611-614. Human. Investigated the effect on meal intake alongside the growth-hormone response Source.

Bowers and Granda-Ayala (2001), Endocrine 14(1):79-83. Human, older adults. Investigated the growth-hormone and IGF-1 response Source.

Drugs in R&D (2004), 5(4):236-239. Drug profile. Reviewed pralmorelin and its Japanese diagnostic-approval status Source.

Mechanism, as described in the literature

The literature describes GHRP-2 as a ghrelin-receptor (GHS-R1a) agonist that triggers a pulse of growth-hormone release from the pituitary, which is why it has been used in humans as a diagnostic probe of growth-hormone secretion. The studies measured those hormone responses under controlled conditions; they are mechanistic and diagnostic, not tests of a treatment.

The material we supply

We supply GHRP-2 as a research chemical, released against a written specification with a batch certificate of analysis. It is not an approved medicine and is not for human or animal use. For the vial sizes, the price per mg and how to order, see the GHRP-2 compound page; the COA lookup pulls the certificate for any batch. The references above link to each study’s record; this summary is for research and educational reference only.

Common questions

Is GHRP-2 an approved medicine?

It is approved in Japan as a diagnostic agent (pralmorelin) only, not as a treatment, and it is not approved here. We supply it for laboratory use only.

What has GHRP-2 research looked at?

Controlled human studies of the growth-hormone and IGF-1 response, its effect on meal intake, and its use as a diagnostic stimulus. The cited studies are above.

What is GHRP-2?

A synthetic growth-hormone secretagogue (pralmorelin) that acts on the ghrelin receptor, GHS-R1a.
